Our senior camp for Year 5 and 6 students will be based down on the South Island this year, in the lovely Teapot Valley. Read on for more exciting details!

CAMP INFORMATION

The Year 5 and 6 camp will take place from Monday 21st September - Friday 25th September 2015 (the final week of Term 3).

The location for Year 5 and 6 camp will be Teapot Valley, 25 mins south of Nelson. We will be staying at the Teapot Valley Camp.

Travel:

We will be travelling on the Interislander ferry, taking the 8:30am sailing on Monday 21st Sep, and returning on the 1:15pm sailing from Picton on Friday 25th Sep. We will travel between Picton and Teapot Valley Camp by bus. We will be asking parents and caregivers to drop off students at the Interislander terminal at 7:30am on Monday 21st and pick students up from the terminal at approx 4:45pm on Friday 25th.

Camp Programme:

Activities have been planned with the Teapot Valley Camp coordinators to ensure the activities are age and ability appropriate. Below is the outline of the activities planned.

Monday - Ferry to Picton, bus to Teapot Valley Camp. Settle, orientation at camp. Hub games. Evening programme.

Tuesday - camp rotation of indoor climbing wall*, confidence course, archery*, indoor slug guns*. Afternoon swimming in camp pool. Evening programme.

Wednesday - Day trip to Abel Tasman National Park: day tramp*. Swimming at beach. Water taxi back to camp. Evening programme.

Thursday - camp rotation of downhill go-karts*, abseiling*, flying fox*, team building games and low ropes course. Evening programme.

Friday - camp pack up and clean. Bus to Picton, ferry back to Wellington.

* When we involve your children in activities that have an element of risk (all activities marked with an asterix) we use qualified camp instructors to operate and run the activities.

Camp Cost: The total cost we charge each student will be $220. (Fundraising will cover the rest of camp costs.) Most of the cost of this camp is made up of activities, hiring instructors, transportation, meals and accommodation.

Fundraising

It is our aim to have every student at camp and make camp affordable for all. To do this we are planning to run a number of fund raising initiatives. Our overall camp costs are considerably higher than the amount we charge parents, but involving the students in raising some of the funds allow us to keep the costs as low as possible.

We have a number of other fundraising activities planned over the next few months:

- Evening Disco for all students – Term 3

- Sausage Sizzles

- Quiz night for adults in Term 3 (Sun August 2nd)

Permission Form

Please click on the link to fill in the camp permission form by Friday 29th May (end of Week 6).

Payment Schedule:

Full payment of $220 can be paid by 31st May, or if parents prefer, they can pay on the following schedule:

  • $50 non-refundable deposit by 31st May 2015

  • $85 second payment by 20th July 2015

  • $85 final payment by 31st August 2015

All students participating must have paid at least the $50 deposit by 31st May.

Parent Help

As always parent help is needed and appreciated for camp to go ahead. In previous years there has been a big response to assisting with camp. While we would love to include everyone, costs and space prevent us from doing so - we have a maximum number of additional parents we are able to take on cmap with us. There is a section on the consent form regarding parental help on camp. If you are interested in attending camp please indicate this on the form. After the form completion deadline (25th Feb) we will notify all parents who have expressed an interest in attending the camp to let you know of our final decision.
